Home Parties - What are your thoughts?

I recently took a trip to one of my local sex toy stores and I was appalled by the horrible selection and prices (Guess I needed a reminder as to why I hadn't shopped there for years!)

I have been thinking about hosting a home party so I can help people out in deciding on material, brand etc. and hopefully convince a few people that sex toys aren't all awful like the others that are available locally. Of course I would be making some money for myself while doing it too!

What do you think about the idea of using my own toys to allow people to look at them up close instead of just on the screen? I don't think this would be a big problem if it was just my family/close friends, but should I buy a few toys with my profits just for using as demos if I do a party with strangers?

There are a few people locally who do Passion Parties, they do have some good products but I am not overly impressed with their selection either.

Have any of you ever attended or hosted a home party?

What next?

I recently threw a bachelorette party for a friend and we used Party Gals. When you sign up with them you get a kit for demos. I was pretty impressed with the selection and they actually have started carrying LELO. I actually booked a second party for my friends in other circles that couldn't didn't come to that bachelorette. I'd recommend looking into that company.

I had a bad experience with Slumber Parties, I don't recommend them.

I've heard good things about Pure Romance too.

I have been thinking of doing the same thing!

    I think it's a great idea :)

I didn't realize there were others, I have only heard of Passion Parties but I am thinking of doing it by showing guests around one of the sites I review for and placing their orders that way.

Oh my gosh, I just looked up Party Gals... Expensive! I don't think I could even afford to try it out, packages start at $250 O_o
Too rich for my poor student blood!

I think organizing it all yourself is a good idea. Would you just demo etc and then, when they want to order, give them your affiliate code? Or something else? Also, if you did that, are you allowed to tell customers about the many discount codes?

I would just take everyones order and then put the order through myself. Then I would deliver/Have people pick it up once it arrives like when I did Avon.

I didn't do too well with Avon because I didn't use enough of the product myself to be very informative, so this could work! Maybe...

I sent off an email with a few questions so I am still not 100% sure on the little details yet.

I have to say, anyone who has a lot of knowledge (such as yourself) will do great at hosting whatever kind of party you decide to throw. I went to a passion party a few weeks ago thrown by a friend. She knew "a lot" about the sex toys and what not that they offer, but she was by no means an expert on any of them. I learned about EF from you, and have been an avid member ever since. None of my friends know that I test toys. The whole time I was thinking this party would be so much more informative and better if someone from EF was hosting it. Someone who knows the materials, and has tried all the products. I really think it would be a good idea!

Did you know Fascinations has a home party program called It's a Party? It's free to sign up, there's no kit purchase requirement, no sales minimums, and the commission rate is 30%. That's how I initially got started with all this (www.itsaparty.com/buzz). I'll do parties if people ask, but they're not my favorite thing, and we already have a fairly decent adult toy store in town.

Love U parties is another one worth looking into, as it's education-based (founded by Ducky DooLittle) and has a very sex-positive philosophy. I think those consultants earn 50% commission, but from what I've seen their prices are a bit high. A Rabbit Habit for $150? I don't think so. A friend of mine is with them, Julie at bringhomethepassion.com, if you want more info on that one.

As for using your own personal toys, as long as you clean everything really well and boil/sanitize those that you can, I personally see no reason not to use them for demo purposes only. BUT, others might not feel that way.

I think it's a great idea, though. Good luck! :)

    Thanks Anonymous :)

BuzzVibe, I tried to sign up for It's a Party a few months ago, and found out from Shanna that they were not taking new members.

I won your giveaway with Julie, so Love U Parties was one of the things that got me thinking of home parties. Turns out they don't normally ship to Canada and Julie is going to ship it herself instead of choosing a new winner. Very awesome of her, but too bad they don't ship here.
